STEP BY STEP

Bali - Kupang - Rote 

​

The flight from Bali is about 1h 15m to Kupang, W. Timor, usually, our guests take the Garuda 438 flight at 11:00 am. 

 

In Kupang, you will have a short layover of about 2h, taking the Wings Air 1935 flight at 3:10 pm to Ba'a, Rote. It's a short 30-minute flight to paradise!

Rote - Kupang - Bali 

​

The return to Bali is just as easy. We recommend our guests to take the Wings Air flight at 7:30 am arriving in Kupang at 8:00 am. Then there is a bit of a layover in Kupang, where we suggest taking the very short trip over to the hotel "La Hasienda" to relax and take some breakfast. (They have a shuttle that will pick you up, and drop you off at the airport.)

Returning from Kupang to Bali you will take the Garuda 439 flight at 1:35 pm and will arrive in Bali at 3:20 pm. 

​

Please note:

  • Wings air will charge for boards and checked luggage 200,000 each board and 25,000 rupees per kilo over 20 kilos. 

  • Wings tickets cannot be purchased online on lion air with foreign credit cards, therefore you will need to book through a booking agency such as nusatravel.com and traveloka.com

Fast Ferry Option

​

Occasionally there will be changes in flight times making it necessary to take the fast ferry between islands. This trip typically takes 2 hours and runs daily. 

​

Kupang to Rote leaves at two times: 8:00 am and 2:00 pm, but the afternoon ferry is typically less reliable.

 

From Rote to Kupang the ferry departs at 11:00 am and will arrive at 1:00 pm. 

​

Upon arrival, you will be met by one of our representatives who will take you along the 45 minute trip from Ba'a to Nembrala. 

 

Booking Recommendations 

​

We suggest booking all accommodations and transfers through us, so you can get to Keong comfortably and hassle-free. Travel logistics to remote places in Indonesia can get quite frustrating if they are not handled with the experience of the local agents.

It is recommended for guests to have Travel Insurance when they visit Keong Surf Villas.

  • As a rule of thumb, if you can't afford travel insurance, you can't afford to travel!

  • Make sure your passport has at least six months’ validity from your planned date of departure from Indonesia

  • Passport, airline tickets, travel info, itinerary and other travel documents are guests responsibility.

  • Airline surcharges on the flight from Kupang to Rote for surfboards are guests' responsibility

Surf Transfers

Included in your Keong rate, you can get to and from Belasui with ease on our tender, designed specifically to bring you to the point and back on your own surf schedule. Inquire within about transportation to other surf breaks like Bo’a and Sukymama. (Link to Boat page and alternate surf spots)

 

Advice on local conditions & things to do on the flat days

With over 35 years of experience, Keong Villas is the authority on where, when and how to surf lesser-known and secret spots around Rote and on surrounding islands. The tides, winds, directions of swells all are imprinted on the backs of our brains, we can let you know when to go and where to go for all your vacation needs: surf, fish, kayak, you name it. Flat days can be restful and rejuvenating or another adventure altogether, it’s up to you.

 

High-Speed Internet

The fastest internet available on the island, Malole has it’s own satellite equipped to handle whatever you’re handling on the web. Keep in touch on the long holidays or manage work between sessions, we pride ourselves on maintaining modern-day conveniences in an idyllic Indonesian village.

 

Massage

Ease your muscles and revel in ultimate relaxation with a Rotenese massage right in your room. Available at your request our massage therapists will tailor their services to your needs.

  • Spring wetsuit, especially in the month of July to September, the trade winds can get chilly

  • Surf equipment: your every day small board will do it, but it is also a good idea to bring a big board as Besialu can get pretty big on a good swell

  • Snorkeling gear

  • First-aid kit (we have our own but you are welcome to bring yours)

  • Sun protection

  • Reef booties

  • Movies (TV and DVD available)

  • We have books and games available for flat days but you are invited to bring your own.

  • Malaria: As every island in Indonesia, Malaria is present, although the chances of contracting it throughout the traditional surf season (May- October) are small since in the dry season there are hardly any mosquitoes at all. All rooms have mosquito nets and are sprayed daily by our housekeeping staff. Also, we recommend all guests take preventive measures like mosquito repellent and long-sleeved shirt at night with similar long pants.

  • Power is 240 w. wall sockets standard Indonesian two-prong round pin

  • Bring Rupiahs for your extra expenses, there is no money changing facilities or ATM available on the island. Please visit an ATM in Kupang.

  • The balance of the bill can be paid in Rupiah, USD or on-site via Credit Card. (Take into consideration that Indonesian Banks don’t accept US bills older than 1999, and we will not accept them either)
